Bio

Dr Sawada received his medical degree and internal medicine training from the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. He trained in cardiology at St Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, CA and completed a research fellowship in cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) at Indiana University. He received additional training in cardiac positron emission tomography and nuclear cardiology at the University of Michigan. Dr Sawada is a clinical investigator focused on research in echocardiography and nuclear cardiac imaging. He is one of the principal developers of dobutamine stress echocardiography, a test used around the world for detection of coronary artery disease in patients who cannot exercise. He has authored over 90 research and teaching manuscripts. His clinical interests include evaluation of myocardial viability, and patients with complex valvular heart disease, pericardial diseases, congestive heart failure, and adults with congenital heart disease. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography and a member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Echocardiography.
